Duplicate glove, made for Queen Victoria's coronation, and the coronation glove worn by Queen Elizabeth II

  The Royal Glove Collection:
Duplicate Coronation glove, George VI, 12 May 1937.
[Accession number 25748]

For the last 150 years, Harborow's of London were responsible for producing the coronation gloves. A duplicate of the single glove was always made in case of an accident to the original and the firm's collection of duplicates was eventually presented to the Worshipful Company of Glovers of London.
This glove was made for George VI's coronation in 1937 and is almost identical to those of Edward VII and George V. The glove was made for Harborow's Ltd by Dent, Allcroft and Co at Worcester. The embroidery was produced by Edward Stilwell & Co in London.
White kid lined with crimson silk. Deep angled gauntlet densely embroidered with gold thread and spangles in a design which includes the traditional motifs of the English Tudor rose, Scottish thistle, Irish shamrock, acorns and oak leaves. Crown and coat of arms (of the Duke of Newcastle) embroidered on the back of the hand.
